Position Overview\n• Emergency Department Registered Nurse position with Day/Night/Weekend/Holiday rotation\n• Schedule: 3x12 hour shifts + 2 On Call shifts per 4-week period\n• No guaranteed holiday RTO\n\nRequired Certifications\n• BLS, ACLS, PALS, Stroke Certification (Must be AHA or RQI)\n• NYS RN Licensure\n\nRequired Experience\n• Two years acute hospital experience as an RN\n• One year ED hospital experience as an RN\n\nPosition Description\n• Apply knowledge of nursing theory, technical, and communication skills in delivering high quality compassionate care to patients and families\n• Assess patient need, identify urgent or emergent care priority, and collaboratively provide direct care\n• Apply appropriate interventions and evaluate patient progress\n• Demonstrate skill in the use of various invasive and non-invasive procedures, treatments, and therapeutic interventions appropriate to manage life-threatening and routine emergency situations\n• Utilize the principles of relationship based care to alleviate anxiety, provide information, and address pain/discomfort and safety\n• Assess the physiological, psychosocial, emotional, and cultural needs of patients of all age groups, their families, and support systems as appropriate\n\nKey Responsibilities\n• Connect with patient and family during triage\n• Identify the initial management of patients of all age groups and assign priority of care in accordance with Triage Standards as outlined in the ESI training\n• Establish rapport with patients and families, address comfort needs, listen carefully, assess nonverbal communication, and provide frequent updates\n• Convey and gather information concisely and accurately\n• Conduct primary assessment of critical need, detect and document any major deviation from norm for all age groups within acceptable time frames\n• Correctly identify the necessary steps/interventions required\n• Use direct observation, patient/family interview, EMS report, and data to conduct secondary assessment\n• Identify contributing factors, health history, events, or activities preceding the emergent health event\n• Assess the psychosocial needs of each individual (including family dynamics)\n• Document and report any suspicion of domestic violence or abuse in all age groups\n• Reassess the patient to identify response to treatment and/or changes in condition and respond appropriately\n• Encourage and build mutual trust, respect, and cooperation among team members to accomplish the best possible patient outcome\n• Teach others as appropriate and delegate tasks and interventions consistent with the individual's education, training, and scope of practice\n• Understand the personal responsibility to safeguard public safety through compliance with infection prevention strategies\n• Prepare patient, parent, or family for diagnostic procedures and treatments\n• Make appropriate referrals for post-emergency care\n• Teach the patient what is needed to continue care/healing at home\n• Assess the patient/family learning styles and structure the sessions to maximize understanding\n• Ask questions to evaluate retention of key points in the education and discharge instruction\n• Seek to understand what is most important to the patient/family, acknowledging that the patient and family are the central focus of all care and services\n• Embrace the importance of creating a Healing Environment as a key element of professional nursing practice\n• Keep patient and significant others informed of process of care, anticipate patient/family needs (including notification of family/support system for the patient)\n• Maintain awareness of the patient's condition/situation throughout the ER visit\n• Update patient communication boards throughout the ED stay
