WHO WE ARE

Zoo New England manages and operates both Franklin Park Zoo and Stone Zoo in Massachusetts and attracts over 1 million guests per year. We are in an exciting growth phase, with large-scale events such as the Boston Lights and award-winning conservation projects. We also recently launched an updated strategic plan and our interpretive master-plan initiatives. We are investing in multi-million-dollar capital improvements, recently opening an outdoor gorilla habitat; currently designing a Wildlife Health and Conservation Research Center, and opening a new African Experience complex, including addition of African penguins in 2026. The institution is focused and expanding, and this is a great opportunity to join our diverse staff and have an impact on the care, welfare and conservation of wildlife.

SUMMARY OF ROLE

Performs duties associated with the upkeep, maintenance, care, beautification and cleaning of ZNEs grounds, roadways and buildings. These tasks require the ability to follow cleaning protocols, wear required Personal Protection Equipment and the ability to follow verbal and written instructions. The ability to work outside in changing weather conditions is a requirement. In addition, the ability to communicate professionally to Zoo guests and employees is also a requirement of this position. The Park Service Associate position is subject to a change in work schedule with reasonable notice based on operational and seasonal needs of the department. Must pass ZNEs online drivers test offered by ZNEs liability insurance carrier.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Clean and restock restroom facilities throughout the Zoo.
• Perform routine tours throughout the Zoo for trash collection purposes.
• Set-up and knock down function venues for Zoo events.
• The ability to shovel snow, sand walkway areas due to snow and ice accumulations.
• The ability to perform minor repairs and maintenance duties as needed.
• Attend company and departmental meetings in order to receive the required training, departmental and company wide information.

Minimum Job Requirements

• Able to Maintain a good attendance record.
• Able to Maintain a positive and professional work attitude.
• Must be able to communicate in written and verbal form in English.
• Must be able to adjust work schedules for summer and winter operational and seasonal needs.
• Must be able to work overtime when needed.
• Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
• Must be able to walk and stand for extended periods.
• Perform other job-related duties as identified by your supervisor.

Preferred Job Requirements

• A valid Massachusetts drivers license in good standing.
• 1 year of custodial experience.
• Fluent in verbal and written communication skills in English.
• Prior work experience in a Not-for-Profit environment.
