Health Information Director – Full-Time (Exempt)

Memorial Hospital in Chester, Illinois is seeking an experienced and motivated Health Information Director to join our leadership team. This full-time, exempt position offers full benefits , consistent with all Memorial Hospital employee benefit programs.

Position Summary

The Health Information Director is responsible for overseeing all functions of the Health Information Management (HIM) Department, ensuring the integrity, accuracy, security, and confidentiality of patient health records. This position provides leadership in medical record management, HIPAA compliance, coding, transcription oversight, release of information, medical staff credentialing and privileging, and EMR workflows. The director works closely with clinical and administrative leaders to support quality patient care, operational efficiency, and regulatory compliance along with serving as the FOIA Officer for the organization.

Qualifications:

• Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Health Information Management or related field required.

• American Health Information Management credentialed (AHIMA) candidate: RHIA, RHIT preferred.

• 6+ years of management experience preferred.

• Strong knowledge of medical terminology, coding standards (ICD-10, CPT), and electronic medical records.

• Excellent organizational, communication, and leadership skills.

• Experience: Preferably three to five years for RHIT, Six years of on-the-job training of H.I.M. Experience or related experience.

Performance Requirements:

• Physical Demands: Good vision. Sits, stands and walks during the work day. Reaches, lifts, carries, stoops, bends and operates light office equipment and materials. Has the ability to work under conditions of frequent interruptions. Adapts willingly and effectively to changes. Travels occasionally outside the hospital to meetings and workshops. Will participate in lifting training at orientation and at refresher lifting training programs. Will demonstrate proper lifting mechanics/techniques as required for their position.
• Responsibility for Errors, Losses and Process: Responsible for training/supervision of transcription, coding and credential area. (All may involve financial matters as well as interpretation of the record.)
• Responsibility for Safety: Must comply with the Fire and Safety Program, the Infection Control Program, Lifting Training, the Disaster Plan and the Safety Policies as outlined in the Personnel Policies Handbook and Hospital Wide Policies. Follows through to see that corrective action is taken. Demonstrates a safety first attitude in use of all office and audio/visual equipment. Keeps pathways clear of wires, cords, and all other obstructions.
• Responsibility for Supervision of Others: Assists all employees with problems or questions. Coordinates activities of the HIM Department including the departmental PI and Medical Staff Activities.
